What is resin bonded surfacing?

Resin bonded surfacing is a permeable paving finish made by scattering loose aggregate chips onto a thin resin adhesive layer applied to a base.

Resin bonded surfacing applies a scatter coat of loose aggregate stone directly onto a thin layer of resin adhesive. The resin glues the aggregate in place while leaving the stone exposed at the surface, creating a textured finish with visible chip colours and sizes.

This system differs from resin bound, where aggregate is mixed throughout a thicker resin layer before application. Resin bonded uses less resin overall and allows water to drain through the gaps between the loose stones, making it a permeable surface. The scattered aggregate approach gives resin bonded a coarser, more pronounced texture than resin bound.
